LAWSUIT FILED AGAINST CTLAC

A recent lawsuit has been filed against the Citizens for Term Limits & Accountability Committee by local citizen Roy Lyons, seeking to block our three proposed charter amendments approved for the November 2008 ballot.  Our amendments are consistent with our goal of giving citizens more power and control over county government.

These amendments (available for viewing below) will:

1.  Reduce and set commissioners' salaries at $37,000 per year and give voters control over any future changes.

2.  Require a 60% approval of all future charter amendments, encouraging more citizen participation in the decision-making process.

3.  Abolish the two at-large commissioners.

We believe these complaints are without merit, but we must defend ourselves in court.  Please contribute to our citizens group.  You may send contributions to the following address.  You also must include your occupation for any contributions of $100 or more.

ABOUT US

Each one of us can look around and witness how a "special interest" has impacted Clay County.  A special interest is, "a person or group having an interest in a particular part of the economy and receiving or seeking special advantages therein often to the detriment of the general public".  Opponents have claimed that the CTLAC is a special interest.  In that case, we're still waiting to be provided our special advantages.

CITIZENS PETITION DRIVE

November 2008 Petitions

On November 7, 2006, voters approved the charter proposal to add two at-large commissioners by a close vote of 52.4%.

Why should Clay County citizens support to eliminate these two at-large seats?

The salaries of the Clay County Commissioners are outside the control of county citizens, and their salary increases are automatic.

Why should Clay County citizens be allowed to set Commissioner salaries and determine future raises?

Why should the minimum requirement for voter approval of all charter amendments be raised to 60% ?
